Foyer

1 Foyer.JPG

The anteroom is probably much the same as when the Bartlett's lived here. Wainscoting is mahogany, all the other wood in the foyer is maple. The brass chandelier is original, it was uncovered in the carriage house. The fireplace has carved ionic columns, (greek revival period) and is also of mahogany. The 8 inch wide decorative plaster molding at the ceiling is the egg and dart pattern, very common during the Greek Revival period and subsequent Victorian Revival periods. The cornice above is the dentil pattern, so named because of its resemblance to teeth. On loan to the Museum is the grandfather clock, it originally belonged to Governor Frank Higgins, presented to him by friends and supporters at the time of his leaving office in 1906. On the wall is a copy of the inscribed plaque which is inside the door of the clock.
