This is likely to have been Mrs. Bartlett's Parlor. Victorian ladies often received their guests in a formal parlor. This room may also have been called the Morning Room. You will note the door and window mouldings in the Eastlake design. The fireplace is hand carved cherry. The wood of the doors and windows is mahogany. The fireplace face is green patterned ceramic tiles, called encaustic tiles and manufactured in America by the 1870's. The hearth is terracotta tile. There is a patterned cast iron insert. The floor is mahogany with a parquet border of maple and black walnut. The Small porch next to this room was originally a small porch that was enclosed by the Health Department. Much of the furniture in this room was from the Mildred Cook Estate.
