Men's Parlor

This room is, without a doubt, the best restored room to date, the Gentleman's Parlor, because the wood and flooring were well protected and needed little or no repair work. Mr. Bartlett and his male guests retreated here after the many formal dinners hosted by the couple. The room is much the same as when they lived here. The ceiling is oak carved beams and panels. The window, door casings and wainscoting are carved mahogany. The chandelier is bronze, a combination of brass and copper. The floor is mahogany and made up of parquet squares. The bay window was added to the room, to better accommodate Mr. Bartlett's billiards table. The sideboard in this room is on loan to the Museum from Frank Higgins III. It was made in the Black Forest region of Germany and is inscribed with the year 1718. This also was in the Governor’s Home in Olean.
